Pistorius’ release may be diminutive

By: Luviwe Pinda

South African Paralympic Oscar Pistorius (28) will have to abide with the parole conditions been set to him. He was released on Monday night having served his one year of his five year sentence, and will spend the remaining four years at home. He was convicted with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines’ Day two years ago. His freedom may be momentary than expected. He should’ve been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The big question rises, what will happen if the same precedent will be set for the murderers who murdered the elderly couple from Alice four years ago in August, and the farmer who was found bashed to death on his farm outside Seymour earlier this year in April? These are some of the concerns we need to contemplate before the Supreme Court of Appeal grants parole to the condemned murderers.
