Department of Police: Late-night Patrols

By: Luviwe Pinda

We often ask ourselves, how often the police do the late-night patrols. Furthermore, how safe are we, as the community in Alice. Many people have different ways of enjoying their weekends and holidays, but what does the Police Department have to offer? Individuals would either get robbed whilst walking home, and get stabbed to death; some of the owner’s homes are broken into and moreover, by the time a victim reports a case of armed robbery or hijacking, the case will impede for a very extensive time.
The perpetrators often target individuals who travel the railway crossing, the small bridge close to the Anglican Church, the road leading to the Lovedale College and Ntselamanzi Township especially when it’s unobtrusive and gloomy,  and in addition, those who walk close to the town’s cemetery. Do the police ever make an effort to drive to these places? What part of initiative do they form within the department?
This brings an excruciating pain to the residents, that when their loved is found dead in any of these parts of the municipality, and have to bear the consequences of burying them. It’s time now that the department take part in making this community, a better and safeguarded place for the society.
